How do you manage your tax software permissions?
Some people use tax software to help them prepare and submit their Self Assessment tax return. Some of these different software programs have the ability to interact with HMRC’s online services, for example, they can submit the Self Assessment tax return using the software.
If you have used any of these tax software programs in the past, you can check which programs you have given permission to interact with HMRC on your behalf to and remove those permissions. So, if for example, you no longer want the software to be able to submit your Self Assessment tax return you can remove the permission that allows it to do so. To do this, you can use the online service on the HMRC website.
To do this, you need a Government Gateway account. If you have used HMRC’s online services, you will already have one of these. You will also need a permanent National Insurance number to access this service. When accessing the online service, you will be sent an access code so that you can access your online personal tax account securely. Once you have logged in to your personal tax account, you will be able to see which software programs you have set permissions for and you will have the ability to change or remove any of these permissions.
